Diwali 2024 Date: October 31 or November 1? Correct Timings for Deepotsav and Lakshmi Puja

Everyone celebrates the festival of Diwali with great joy and prosperity across India. The festival of lights holds special significance in Hindu religion. Each year, Diwali is celebrated on the Amavasya Tithi in the month of Kartik. But this year, there is confusion among devotees regarding the festival’s date. Many are confused whether to celebrate Diwali Pujan on October 31 or November 1.

Astrologer and palmist Vinod Soni Pauddar from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, explains the reason behind this confusion and clarifies the exact date and auspicious time for Lakshmi Puja.

When to celebrate Diwali?

Astrologer Pauddar states that Diwali is always celebrated on the night of Amavasya. This year, the Amavasya Tithi will begin on October 31 at 2:40PM and lasts until the morning of November 1.

He further explains that any festival is observed on the date of Pradosh Kaal. Similarly, Deepotsav is always celebrated on Pradoshvaapini Amavasya Tithi. Therefore, Udaya Tithi holds no significance in this context. And people should perform Diwali Puja on October 31 without any confusion.

According to Shastra Samvat, celebrating Diwali on November 1 is not considered auspicious.

What is the Correct Lakshmi Puja Timing?

Pandit Soni also provides details on the auspicious time for Lakshmi Puja. He states that this year, the auspicious time for Lakshmi Puja is from 5PM to 10.30PM on October 31. According to religious beliefs, Lakshmi ji was born during the Samudra Manthan on the new moon day of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. Therefore, Lakshmi Puja on this day holds special significance.
