Easy Ways To Keep Your Heart Healthy This Festive Season

The heart is one of the most vital organs in the body, and maintaining heart health is crucial for a person’s overall well-being. Cardiovascular diseases and critical heart ailments are a leading cause of death worldwide, affecting millions of people.  Embracing and adopting a healthy lifestyle can lower the risk of developing heart conditions, leading to a healthy heart. A good and healthy heart is essential for a person’s overall wellness and longevity. With the arrival of the holiday season, it is mandatory for people to keep their heart health in check.

Dr. Ravinder Singh Rao, MBBS, MD, DM, FACC, Interventional Structural Cardiologist shares some of the easy strategies to maintain a healthy heart during the festive season:

  • Exercise and physical activity are among the most important aspects of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. While feasting on all kinds of different foods can be pleasurable, it is important to consider your heart health, as overeating can increase the risk of several heart diseases. A 30-minute run or a 45-minute brisk walking session in a day can help you improve your metabolism.
  • Alcohol is another factor that can have a negative impact on your heart health. At the time of any festivities, alcohol is one of the many things that people go overboard with. Excessive alcohol consumption can increase your blood pressure causing dizziness and palpitations. Limiting your alcohol consumption will help a person’s blood pressure levels and will reduce the risk of hypertension.
  • Before any party or any kind of celebration, a person requires a lot of energy to be able to enjoy every moment to the fullest. Hydrating and having different kinds of protein will help a person restore energy and it will further help you avoid other saturated food items. These saturated foods can lead to high blood pressure and blood cholesterol. Having fruits and yogurt will help give your body the vitamins it needs.
  • Lastly, avoid exposing yourself to loud and harsh music as it affects your heart. Exposure to high decibel sounds can make a person anxious. Anxiety can increase your heart rate causing palpitation and sweating.

Festivals are a time of joy and happiness and sometimes in the midst of all this, people forget to take care of their overall wellbeing. From exercising to healthy eating, there are many safety measures that you can include in your day-to-day life to maintain a healthy heart.
